VegfestUK dates for Brighton (March 17th & 18th) and Bristol (May 25th - 27th) 2012

VegfestUK dates announced for Brighton and Bristol 2011

Date: 2010-10-31

The dates for the biggest vegetarian and vegan events in Europe in 2012 have been confirmed. VegfestUK dates for Brighton on March 17th and 18th  2012 and Bristol on  May 25th,26th and 27th 2012 -see website www.vegfest.co.uk for details

VegfestUK events are free to the public and large numbers are expected to attend both shows and sample the delights from over 100 stallholders rammed full of food, bodycare, fashion, accessories, merchandise and information - all of it vegan. And with a full line up of talks, demos and entertainment, both VegfestUK Brighton and VegfestUK Bristol look certain to be runaway successes.

"Brighton and Bristol are full of people who are veggie, vegan or veggie friendly" explains Tim Barford, the man behind VegfestUK, "and with these events not only being full of so much interesting produce and info, but also free to the public, they look like attracting capacity crowds. And of course you don't have to be vegan or even veggie to enjoy the day, anyone with even the mildest interest in gourmet quality food and some outstanding bodycare and fashion items is going to be in paradise. The fact that it is all 100% plant based makes it all the more appealing to a growing number of people."

Tim has organised a dozen vegan events over the last decade including the huge 2008 Bristol Vegan Fayre which saw over 12,000 people gathered for an orgy of all things vegan for the weekend in central Bristol, but he thinks his brand new VegfestUK events are going to be the best yet.

"Organising successful events year in year out is a big ask, to say the least" Tim says, "but the key to it is to keep listening to the public, your stallholders, friends and critics, and keep improving the quality. Our big change this time is that VegfestUK is a free event to the public, as well as offering cheaper stall options, whilst improving the level of entertainment yet again. VegfestUK looks a cut above any of our previous shows, and a definite step up once more."

So if you think that veggie food and the lifestyle and people that go with it are bit tired and dull - think again, and experience the best of the veggie lifestyle in all its splendour, with a myriad of explosive flavours, textures and creations to try in a relaxed, bustling, lively and enjoyable surroundings - see more details and information on the event websites at http://www.vegfest.co.uk Contact the VegfestUK office by email Protected email address or by phone on 0117 3079872

Sainsbury's is dropping vegan labelling

Wasn't it great that Sainsbury's were labelling their own brand products vegan if they were? Well, now it seems they won't be.

The best course of action would be to tell them how useful it was, how it affected our shopping habits, and how disappointed we are that they will no longer be doing so. Let's all ask them to reconsider, as maybe we just didn't say how much we appreciated it enough. There are many ways to contact Sainsbury's, but a written communication is most likely to get passed on.

Sainsbury's have now issued a statement apologising for any confusion and reiterating its policy on vegan labelling as:

"It is Sainsbury's policy to label products that are suitable for vegans, as 'suitable for vegetarians and vegans', using the Sainsbury's vegetarian and vegan logo.

The only exceptions are those groups of products which are obviously vegan (and where our vegan customers have indicated that labelling is unnecessary). Examples include plain waters, unseasoned flours, plain fruit and veg. The position of the logo on packs may differ from product to product due to different pack formats and the presence of other key customer messages."

It is not known whether the company have backtracked on their initial plans of removing labelling or whether it was a genuine mistake on their part. Irrespective of whether it was a mistake or the company are backtracking, it can only be welcome news that vegan consumer power would appear to have been successful.

In an era when more people are turning to an ethical and healthier diet it is important that companies and supermarkets provide packaging that takes into account the increasing numbers of people turning to a non animal based diet. The direction that Sainsbury’s were allegedly going to take would have been a retrograde step and could have set a dangerous precedent.
