BVF 08 - Over 11,000 at the show

BVF 08 - Over 11,000 at the show

Date: 2008-06-09

Loads of people show up at this year's BVF

Thanks a million to everyone who came - it was awesome Big up all of you who helped, and especially Poppy, Kate and Ellen who once again were superstars Thanks to our sponsors especially Beanie's, Bute Island and Plamil and thanks Timbo and all the Yaoh crew, especially Charlie and Frank Legends Bristol Vegan Fayre 008 – Over 11,000 at the show Over a hundred vegan independent businesses received just the shot in the arm they needed at the 6th annual Bristol Vegan Fayre (May 31st June 1st 08), with over 11,000 at the show over 2 days, and the spend was significantly up for many of the stallholders, which was more than welcome in this current doom and gloom climate Many stallholders reported that they had sold out before the end of Saturday with their best ever trading figures for a vegan event, and already there have been enquiries for next year with leading vegan brands including Provamel, Beanie’s, Bute Island and major distributors such as Suma, Essential, Infinity and Marigold more than happy with the weekend. Peter from Community Foods summed it up perfectly. ‘THAT was the MOST AMAZING MEGA show in the whole world. Not only was it incredibly busy on both days and we sold out all the food we brought, but it was so well run, the atmosphere was great, extra special, it was like going back to the sixties. There were so many times when I stopped to see lots of different groups of people having fun and everyone was so relaxed and friendly and the music was fantastic too. And all this was down to you, all the work you put in and the vibes you created. A big THANK YOU for a wonderful week end, kind regards, Peter Young, Community Foods’ Praise indeed from one who knows – and a fantastic credit to so many independents, small firms, charities, campaigners and individuals who have pulled together to make such an excellent showcase event for the worlds most ethical lifestyle – the vegan lifestyle. Particularly well received were the 60 talks and demos including cookery classes and raw food prep zones – indeed the interest in the Living Raw area reflected the success of leading raw firms like DetoxYourWorld, Total Raw Food, Raw Magic and The Fresh Network pulling together to help present the best of this fast growing lifestyle choice. The Show Specials idea worked a treat too, with over 80 stallholders offering specials show offers and discounts, as well as several leading brands like Rude Health, Jason, Good Oil, Viridian, Booja Booja and Plamil represented at the show without actually being there in person, courtesy of their generous donations which insured a high profile presence at the show with a minimum of resources and investment. But once again it was the high level of entertainment that stole the show, with headline bands Misty in Roots, Aswad, Bad Manners, Dreadzone and Babyhead creating a right pukka stir down by the Main Stage and insuring that thousands of new people were welcomed into the vegan circles and given the opportunity to embrace the best people, products, projects, education and inspiration that the vegan community has to offer Thanks due to so many, including Bristol City Council and the Authorities, whose most excellent support, attitude and approach to this event has been exemplary, and of course to all our stallholders, sponsors and supporters for bothering – well appreciated. And even better – the Vegfam ‘Gimme 5’ campaign was launched at this year’s BVF – with over £700 raised overall for this wonderful charity that Feeds The Hungry Without Exploiting Animals, as well as over 15,000 flyers distributed. A child dies from starvation every 5 seconds on this planet, and Vegfam seek to assist in challenging this. The event was supported by DetoxYourWorld, Total Raw Food, Essential, Veggiesnow, FoodsforLife, Community Foods, VeggieVision, Attwoolls, Viva!, Amphora Aromatics, Marigold & The Spark Thanks to Tony Bishop Weston (PeaPR.com), Karin Ridgers (mad-promotions.com), Jenny and Ian (Excellart.co.uk) & Frank Bryant (yaoh.co.uk) for their most excellent PR services
